Learn the joys of mixed media collage. In the workshop, I teach the fundamentals of collage, drawing and painting. Students have the option to play with gelli plates, stamps and monoprinting on papers in addition the collage. The materials used will be the choice of each student, but students are encouraged to incorporate some of their own prior art work into new pieces. The objective of the workshop is to explore new mixed media techniques and excavate each student’s authentic voice in their art.

I teach 2 drawing methods using the student’s own photos. I teach how to graph a photo for any size free hand drawing and also a tracing method that works well for small pieces and individuals who are intimidated or new to drawing. We learn the fundamentals of collage on the first day and then spend the second day drawing and painting over those collages. I do drawing demonstrations on the first day so that you know what to expect and what kind of photo reference to bring. I work individually with each person trying to get their projects to a place that they love.

I encourage everyone to incorporate mixed media collage into what they already do! I will work with each of you on whatever style project you would like to work on whether it is faces, figures, landscapes, still lives or abstracts. There are no set rules in my workshops. I try to create a fun time that introduces new techniques and a comfortable learning environment to enhance where you already are. All levels are welcomed!

Intuitive Painting Workshop with Candy Schultheis

Saturday & Sunday, February 18 & 19, 2023, 10 AM to 4 PM. $350

Abandon traditional methods of painting during this non-traditional 2-day workshop.

Intuitive painting is an opportunity to explore through the creative process in a safe, judgement free environment. It is not a painting technique or method. This approach to painting is focused on mindfulness, creative permission and the act of spontaneous expression. There is no prior painting experience necessary. Stemming from a deep belief that creativity is fundamental to human health and well-being, it can be enlightening, invigorating, deeply moving, playful, fun and cathartic.

We will be using a variety of tools (bristle brushes, foam brushes, credit cards, fingers, bubble wrap, stencils etc.) and we’ll use a variety of techniques (layering, stamping, spraying with water, rolling paint, etching.) We’ll cover color, contrast, mark making, and where to begin, with demonstrations and plenty of individualized attention. We will do a series of creative exercises to stimulate our growth. Experience the creative process as you never have before. There are no mistakes, no judgements, only journeys. Fun and freedom are just around the corner.

The Beauty of Landscape Painting in Oils
with Robin Popp

June 23, 2023, 10 AM – 5 PM, $125

Intermediate to Advanced Painters
We live in one of the most beautiful locations in the country! With so much inspiration, it’s just natural that artists want to record it on canvas. In this one day workshop we will explore all the components for building a great landscape painting. From Composing a great scene, to mixing a variety of greens that show depth, and learning the building blocks of creating realistic trees, Robin will take you step by step into her process. Plus, she will share all her shortcuts and tricks for getting out in the field with your oil paints.

“A naturalist at heart, plein air painting gives me the opportunity to observe nature while immersed in it. The slow, steady movement of living things inspires me to patiently pay attention. I use oil paint for its luminosity as well as for the enduring, earthly elements that compose the paint itself. As a Florida artist, I feel a responsibility to document what is so quickly changing in our state, and to preserve it visually for future generations. I also hope to give the viewer a sense of peace and joy as they experience the artwork.” –Robin Popp
